Post subject: 1 vs 1 debate

These are closed debates with only two people debateing. Each side will have one appointed person to argue the side.
Each debates rules may vary slightly depending on the debators. The amount of judges and the type of judgeing may also depend on what the people debating would want and also taking into consideration the topic.
Basic rules will be myself and two to four other judges reading through the debate of anywhere from five to fifteen posts per debator. (both sides must have the same amount of posts)
Each will be judged on
originality
persuassion
style
knowledge of the subject
relevence to the original topic
sticking to the topic
a perfect score would be thirty....
rules are subject to change

| About the judges.....I have had my own suspicions that the judges on another forum didn't bother to read the debates at hand...it looked as though they waited untill one judge cave his/her views then followed by changing the scores a lil...so I was wondering...when a judge is judging a debate...he/she must say as to WHY they chose a debater to gain higher points....and it must be more than one reason??? What do you think of that??? :( |

well you have a great point here geri so we could do a score and reason for each nothing that has to be long or drawn out but a reason for why someone is given a four or whatever.....how about that? no reason we can't make the judges think a bit  |

Interesting as a former debate judge and now organiser of the debates in that section I must inform you that your suspicions are incorrect.The other organisers and I are very vigilant with such matters. |

Maybe they are but like I said...those where just my suspicions and nothing more..no disrespect intended..however I take it back..cuz I was listening to what others had to say...so no hard feelings..those suspicions are obviously wrong....I think the debates on UM are ran smoothly to be honest |

Aztec thankyou for your pesrspective, UM is an amazing site and we have great resepct for it and the debate sections are very well run..i was vey impressed
