Could some of you creative people give me some tips on how to write lyrics for songs? Playing guitar is hard enough, but in the little free time I have I find it difficult to write lyrics.

hmmm... writing lyrics is a hard process... indeed it depends on what sort of music you write... i like to pour out my anger, sadness and other emotions into song... but say if you look at TOOLs lyrics its full of metaphors. Here is a song i wrote today about a certain someone who is messing with my damned head at the moment;
Fly away, fly away angel
Talk away... into the night
Scare away all of my sorrows
And put them back again
with the words of your own
Shy away... Shy away phantom
If I lose you, im no longer whole
Scream for help
Noone to help you
You shouldnt have shunned me for trying.
So you see a lot of what I write comes from the heart... just because its rock music or whatever doesnt mean you cant have a love song or two... So what ticks you off? war? politics? religion? start with a word perhaps. Or a color... colors determine the mood of the song.

Hehe...Rhy...I know who you wrote this song about...Do I get a star on my forehead LOL..
I think that writing lyrics to a song can be a hard thing at times..you have to be in the creative mood....Also emotions at the time that you start to write will have an affect on what you write...for instance..if your in a bad mood ...your lyrics will tend to sway that way...if your in a laid back mood..etc,...
What I do when I start to compose lyrics is let the music tell the story based on my emotions at the time....so it's like a "Feel the music" and what it expresses at that moment..then the words flow...give it a try... El Bandito
