Post subject: Animal Abuse

This is one of the biggest gripes in my life. I live in the country and every spring we get throw aways. People (and I use the term loosely) drop off their unwanted animals along the road. They have no idea where these animals will end up or if they live or die. We have had everything dumped off, dogs, cats, rabbits.
Recently we had our latest visitor and this time it really pissed me off. Someone left a pregnant puppy to fend for itself. This little pittbull was no more than 6-9 months old. She was so sweet and gentle but we noticed that she had also been abused by the way she cowered when anyone went near her. We kept her for a week as I tried desperately to find her a home but unfortunately I couldn't. I was forced to call the local animal control. My heart was broken when I watched her leave. I knew her fate was pretty much sealed.
This poor defensless puppy never had a chance to have the life our dog has. We couldn't keep her out of respect for our dog. Besides 3 bitches in one house is 1 too many.
I would like to see the laws change to invoke a higher penalty for these kinds of abuses. The people who do this are COWARDS that would rather leave an animal in the wild as to find it a home or have it put down. I think terminating the dogs life is far more humane than putting it into the wild. Who knows what this dog might have had to resort to if it were in the wilderness for any length of time. Small animals, children, ect......

I hate any cruelty to animals. I have three cats myself and the neighbourhood cats are always popping in and out of my house to visit us and our cats. I'll go spatz at anyone I see abusing any animal whether my pet or not. I'm always explaining to the local kids not to scare the cats, and instructing them on how to pet them properly and not be noisy etc. In fact yesterday I yelled at a group of boys who were barking at a dog down the street to wind it up. Lovely animal; a german shepherd doberman cross from the look of him and so friendly.
The other day I was off to the shop and I heard a scuffle and looked back to see another neighbours dog, a Staffie, chasing my cats. I yelled and ran at it to try and get it off them and it ran off. The owners came over and I was so angry all I could say was if any of my cats are injured they are paying the vet bills and walked off. Two of the cats were so scared they didn't come back until the following morning. The owners of this dog live in a tiny house with a 4ft by 6ft concrete front garden and a shared open courtyard at the back. They leave dogmess in the front garden to decay and cause stenches up the whole street and often allow their dog to wander around the neighbourhood freely. _________________

dogs are a huge responsibility just like a child. Owners need to assume that role with respect for the animal as well as other humans. Don't take on an animal unless you're willing to take full responsibility. _________________ Motivate Your Mind |

oh good grief... i have very strong feelings about this topic. i feel more strongly for animals than i do humans. working at petsmart, we often get abandoned animals... people will drop off animals in the parking lot, hoping that we'll take care of them. one lady dropped off a bird, another dropped off a turtle. luckily, we found homes for both of them. for the most part, animals that go to animal shelters are adopted out, except the pitbulls. those are put directly to sleep, which i don't agree with. the animal, however scarred it is, should be given a good chance to recover. some of those dogs could make great pants if given the chance to do so. this world makes me so mad sometimes. what gives us the right to think we're better than animals...
i mean, really, go look into your dog's eyes... you will see more love in those deep brown eyes than you will ever find in a human or humanity as a whole. sure, animals may not be AS intelligent as we are, but at least they love unconditionally, which is more than i can say for any of us humans. and in my opinion, animals are just as intelligent, if not more, than we are... we're sitting here destroying the one place we have to live... and killing animals along with it.
anyhow, animal abuse kills me. those poor defenseless animals, putting their trust and love in their owners and then being hurt like that... it scars them for life, making some of them unadoptable. it's awful. when i get older, i would love to start some sort of rehabilitation center for abused animals. _________________ "The true mystery of the world is the visible, not the invisible" -Oscar Wilde

I agree. We'd love a dog ourselves (a chocolate labrador preferably) but the house we live in just isn't suitable. We have three cats and they have full run of the cellar; with free access in and out if we're not about. It took us about two months to decide to get another cat, we discussed it for ages before making a decision. All three of our cats are our babies, if anything happened to them we'd both be inconsolable.
At the moment we're looking to move and have already rejected one house as it wouldn't be suitable for the cats.
