Yes, you are correct Brutus: The way you are raised DOES influence the way you think.
BUT, as a rational, thinking creature, a person can CHANGE their outlook and perspectives. Especially when what one has been taught is wrong.
For example: spouse abuse. They say that if you grow up in a home where daddy beats mommy, you think of this as 'correct' behavior, and are liable to grow up as a wifebeater as well. BUT, even though it is still far too common, there is enough information and awareness of the subject, that one would be hard pressed to be able to say it is 'normal' behavior.
So you believe Brutus, that the ends justifies the means? Even though a family teaches racist, hateful ideas, its ""OK"" because "they are trying to protect you"?

No I'm not saying it's OK to be racist, I'm saying that there are deeper issues besides stupidity in racism. You can't just write racists off as a bunch of morons, just like you can't group a bunch of people together and say they are all one way (racism). I completely agree with you one's outlook on races can be changed.
Errr, and that was kinda taken outa context JMPD, when I mentioned that they were trying to protect you I was adressing why they would say anything to you. |

Wow!!! this thread went all over the place....When people talk of marriage in general it means that they are making a committment to eachother to spend the rest of their lives together...because they love eachother...and want no other partner in their lives...
Some people think of same sex marriages as the end of line as far as children...well that's not really correct...a gay couple can adopt children or in some cases..have a surrogate produce a child for them...or in a lesbians case..she can be artificially insemenated...So creating a child is not a big deal anymore...as far as conception...don't misunderstand me..having a child is a big deal.....it is also a lifetime committment...
It all goes back to the "stereotyping again"...some people believe that only man/women should marry...it is the right thing to do...ok...so what if one of their offspring is Gay...? That Gay child was still taught the sanctity of marriage, knows how to love...wants a life partner to spend the rest of their lives with...They still have the family values.....but choose to have a same sex partner...what's the difference???? None that I can see..unless your stereotyping someone the way that you think it should be...What's normal for one person...may not be normal for another.......IMO...El Bandito
