... instead of reaching for that over-the-counter remedy, or your prescription, try Valerian root.
It comes in tablet form, and can either be taken directly, or crushed and brewed in hot water as a tea.
It does smell horrid, but it works for me.
Best bet is a natural food store, altho some of the larger pharmacies (chemists) do carry it as well.
Two tablets have me sleeping like a baby.

Great product, the only downside is I get tired easily the following day. As long as I bear this in mind when taking it the night before it's no problem.
