Okay, well it's not exactly a book, but here is a very funny short story by Mark Twain, http://www.washburn.edu/sobu/broach/goodboy.html.

I absolutely love Twain, and I hope you enjoy this one too.

I get into Sci-Fi but the story was OK.
It has been a very along time since I read anything by Mark Twain.
