Definitely a very debatable subject especially when you have the believers involved. I have gone to both extremes through my time in believing he existed and did as was literally taught by the Bible and thinking that he never existed and the whole story was made up in order to gather the sheep in the pen to do thy bidding!!

The way I look at it now is somewhat of a middle ground. I would say that if he did truly exist, then he was severely mis-interpreted. I would say that he was trying to teach everyone how they could do many of the things that he was doing if they would just look within themselves to find the truth. When he always pointed to himself as the answer for salvation I would say that he was trying to tell all the people to do the same to themselves. So thinking this way is pretty much saying, take all of Jesus's words and take them in that context, what he said about himself, say that about yourself.

I feel Jesus really lived. I don;t believe all that the Bible says, but I think he was a real person. I have read moany different theories, from him being made up to him being an alien. I don't ponder this subject too much, honestly, will we ever know the whole truth???

I believe the person existed as a small time prophet with a small band of followers but the stories of him are retold tales of prior fables. He's been made out to be something he never was for the sake of power and money. He was a great way for the new religion of the month to get ahold of people to make them believe and follow.

Outside of the Bible there is very little evidence of Jesus beside the fact that there were a fair number of men with that name.

:crzy: Some one is going to have to clue me in on all of these people with the last name Berri :!:

The first time I read the n.t. I could not stop laughing. It was not until my late forties that it finally hit me: the vast majority of the population of the western world believe that there was a Jew, 2000 years ago, that was really God incarnate, born from a virgin as a sign, and somehow sacrificed himself to himself on a cross, somehow forgiving sins if you buy all that. Let's not forget-if you die and haven't bought it, you go to hell for all eternity. Up until maybe 5 years ago, I figured that people meant all the above, and mych more-communion, etc., symbolically, not as literal truth. After all, its all the same as Odin sacrificing himself on a tree for 9 days! Even St. Jerome said "unless Christ is sacrificed and resurrected in your heart, it is meaningless." How much more plain can it be! A symbol of a path to enlightenment, thinly disguised as an allegory! You must have all that in your consciousness to reach Nirvana. "You must be as little children!" "You must be born again!" The Buddha taught all that, 500 years earlier. And Krishna, before that. Then again, the same story is told, with little alteration, about all three, and Mithras, and many oother God/heroes! Look at the meaning! Do you get it? I've been holding back on you guys, but I have to finallly say it - It really doesn't matter whether Jesus was real or not! His virgin birth, death and resurection, etc., are all symbols of what has to happen in your spirit to reach enlightenment! Example: look at the seven "last words" and understand them in association with the seven traditional "planets". The Book of Revelation is a very concise guide to meditation, releasing the seven seals (chakras), until the bride (kundalini force) joins the Bridegroom (Sahasrara chakra). The third eye is opened in Revelation 21:4-5:
Quote:
4 they shall see his face, and his name shall be on their foreheads. 5 And night shall be no more; they need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they shall reign for ever and ever.

The Catholics still commemorate the third eye on Ash Wednesday, okay? I say-look at the meaning.

Geri...LOL...I did the same thing...never liked the ashes on my head... But well mom and dad required it to be there on ash wednesday so...LOL

Never heard of the ashes being that of "The third eye"...no longer a catholic nor do I believe in any type of religiion...but....I do believe there was a "Jesus of Nazareth"...Also if you think about it..he would be known today as a radical..just as he was then..only difference is that well ....he gained too many followers and got too powerful....hmmm what happens to a person like that...? Is he left to his own devices to spread something around that could destroy a more powerful leader...nope they get rid of him...some may say that he chose to be crucified...I don't think so...after all the name "Judas" does mean...traitor...his friend sold him out for money...

Now think about someone like "Jesus" in our time.....he would either end up in a mental hospital for his ranting and raving or they would find a way to dispose of him so that he couldn't cause anymore problems...Same thing back then...and the thing that gets to me is...If he was a product of "Immaculate conception"..ok Mary wasn't a virgin....she had a daughter and another son Who by the way were older than Jesus and also King Herod was said to have been trying to eradicate all the first born sons...so Joseph "jesus"s stepdad I guess" took Jesus older brother to hide...he comes home and poof Mary his wife has had a immaculate conception...seems someone was in the hen house when joseph was away......ok she could have been the virgion to God..but hmmm nah...not in the way I see...Also..Jesus's B-day is not on Christmas eve/day..it was in June...why do they make a fuss over it...another thing is...ok he only preached the word for 3 years..he was 30 yrs old...what did he do for the first 29 years???? I know he was supposed to be a carpenters son..but why not preach the word of God all his life if he was the chosen messiah.......???? Just very confusing to me...K...I'm sorry to all that believe....but these are the questions that I have...if anyone can give me answers it may change my mind......I won't debunk anyone's religion just don't understand christianity...it's like a puzzle that yep if I can get all the pieces to fit..I'll know that I've completed it..if not...well..it's just pieces...
