Post subject: Any advice on helping a sproglett through puberty please
|

Help !!!
I am the doting (I think that should really read 'dotty' mum ) of a 10½ year old girl, who is just entering puberty.
As I have never had periods, I have no idea of how to reassure her of the changes she is experiencing.
I have told her the facts about the physical changes, but hormonally and what having periods will be like, I have no idea what to tell her.
Having looked at the market for sanitary protection, I feel amused that there is nothing small enough for a young girl to start off on her journey of usage.
The brands on the market are HUMUNGUS, compared to a 10 year olds knickers, not only do the towels pop out front and back, but the 'wings' fold round them several times too !!!
We had a great time trying the brands out, but in all seriousness-
Does anyone know of a discreet brand, which is suitable for first time use and doesn't do any or all of the above mentioned things?
Does anyone have any advice that will help us both, but hold fast with the horror stories please.....

Hi Spells...Thanks for the post...I read where you said you have never experienced periods..I thought WOW lucky woman LOL
Anyhoo I took a lil time and I found you something intresting...I read up on reviews for pad for girls just starting out ect ect...this one that I am about to show you had the best write up review and I myself use them too
Back when I 1st took my monthly or as I call it my aunt flow LOL there was no such things as pads with wings...we had to wear these gawd awful thick doctor white pads...it was like wearing a nappy/diaper Thank gawd for the thinner ones
I would advise - ALWAYS ULTRA they have them without wings and they arent all that big
Have at look at the source of info ->> http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/personal-hygiene/always-ultra/304950/
I hope your lil girl don't get heavy periods that cramp like hell...fingers crossed eh??
It wouldnt hurt for her to wear knickers that are bigger we call them - the belly warmers LOL.they cover the bum more and seem to keep the pads in place and its not as if she has to wear them all the time, just once a month
Ohh might I suggest you buy her one of those lil beanie bags you can get out of BOOTS Chemist...you place them in the microwave for a min or so and we use them up against our tummies to help ease the cramps...but why not ask the pharasist about those and how safe they are
Best of luck :) |

I agree with the Always Ultra comments, when I used to have periods I used them all the time. They seem to be best at absorption/odour control and they don't ever feel "wet" like some of the others can. Above all the best thing about them is they're about 2mm thick - hardly show whatever you're wearing!
Also to add to Geri's comments about the pharmacist - ask them if they know of any brands suitable for her. I'm sure they'll have been asked this before, and hopefully will be able to advise. I ask my local pharmacist about everything, and only tend to toddle off to the docs if they suggest it :hehe: saves me a trip into town if I don't need it
